Experience & Testimonials
Nexus Internet Solutions have been providing web based business applications and databases since 1996. During that time our projects have been many and varied and we thrive on our ability to work on bespoke projects and requirements.
Getting London Moving
Getting London Moving was a six figure bespoke application for DTLR.
Getting London Moving is a choice-based lettings scheme which will give many of London's council and housing association tenants the chance to choose their move.
The service was launched by Lord Falconer, Minister of State for Housing on Monday 18th March and it went live at the end of April 2002 for the first 4 landlords.
The GLM pilot project is delighted with Nexus Internet Solutions (their developers) who have managed to build a system from scratch in an 'almost unfeasible' timescale.
This scheme comprises 11 of London's social landlords. These are 5 councils - Hammersmith & Fulham, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Lambeth - and 6 Registered Social Landlords (or housing associations) - Metropolitan Housing Trust, Shepherds Bush Housing Association, Notting Hill Housing Trust, Ujima Housing Association, Family Housing Association, and New Islington & Hackney Housing Association.
Tenants from the participating RSL's can search and register for a property of their choice on the Getting London Moving website. Once they decide to transfer, tenants will be able to go and view the homes of other tenants who want to transfer, while making their own home available for viewing. Instead of waiting for their landlord to find them a home, they should be able to act for themselves. With this power, tenants can build up chains of potential moves, restricted neither by area nor landlord. The participating landlords will provide an empty property to complete a chain of five or more, or when a chain includes a tenant is in priority need. This scheme is a tenant driven, hands on approach and will empower tenants to arrange their own moves.
The project is being managed by the London Housing Unit service of the Association of London Government and is grant funded by the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions as part of its Choice-Based Lettings Initiative.
London borough of Southwark intranet
From our beginnings we have provided services to the both public and private sector.
One of our largest early projects was the supply of the London Borough of Southwark Intranet System, which is still in use today 5 years hence. The project included devising a publishing schema for content from Microsoft Word, long before Microsoft themselves or any other vendor had provided a turnkey solution. The system included security and user groups. A publishing wizard capable of taking Microsoft Word content and placing it into a category specific hierarchy. Nexus won the contract in the face of much larger opposition notably Bull Computing, the councils main IT provider. Since our solution was cost effective, accurately planned and costed and well presented. The then project leader at the council said:
This is the first council IT project that has been delivered ahead of schedule and on budget.
In 1998 we delivered a bespoke solution to the leadership of Southwark Council aimed at calculating the costs of all the expenditure of the LEA in the London Borough of Southwark in response to an initiative in order to provide a figure to central government on the amount of public money that could be released to the schools themselves. This involved distributed databases and synchronisation across the borough. The Project leader said:
The LEA Services Review Team has asked me to formally write to you on their behalf to thank you for your effort and contribution to the work of the group and the development of the database within such a short period of time. The results of your work have been greatly appreciated and a source of admiration!

National air traffic control service
We have many commercial clients including many well-known organisations. Recently we developed a system whereby The National Air Traffic Control Service (N.A.T.S.) could plot "real time" aircraft positions on an Internet Website. This involved taking a live data feed from a radar screen in use at the N.A.T.S. facility at Stanmore near Heathrow parsing the data through a database and presenting the results via a web browser in Macromedia Flash. The application also has an e-commerce arm for creating and maintain valid users. Recent tragic events have delayed the launch of this leading edge application.
Recruitment sites
We have a great deal of experience in recruitment websites one of our recruitment databases aviationjobsearch.com. Tailored specifically for the aviation and travel industries. It consists of an enterprise level database, with tens of thousands of vacancies. The vacancies are placed on the system using a web browser interface by individual contributor companies typically about 200 such companies are currently uploading data. They include the likes of British Airways, Virgin, Going Places and Emirates. There is also an administration console at a higher level for the site owners which allows creation and maintenance of accounts etc. The site allows very complex searches and has recently topped two million page impressions per month, without any noticeable depreciation in performance. Another related factor to this project is the auto e-mail system. Each night approximately ten thousand e-mail's are sent out to subscribers, with an individually tailored list of vacancies meeting their exact requirements.
Nexus Solutions have helped all of us at aviationjobsearch.com to realise our potential and have worked hard from our initial brainstorming discussions to get the site to a level where we can happily host 5,000+ visitors a day, have 50 of the best known names in aviation as clients (British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Emirates etc), and have an average viewing time per visitor of just under 10 minutes! - much of the credit for this must go to Nexus who have a very professional, friendly and hard working approach to their business which reflects well in the products that are delivered.
We have been very happy with the relationship that we have built with Nexus, which has resulted in a new site that both our clients and jobseekers are very happy with. We have the ability to generate a lot more revenue through the site now, and we know that professional support is only a call away should we run into problems at any stage.
Aviationjobsearch.com are very happy to be partnered with Nexus Solutions, and their attention to the tasks in hand have never been questioned, moreover they have suggested and implemented some excellent concepts throughout the development stage which have helped in strengthening our business model
